STEAMOLOGY is seeking an engaging, practical, and reflective Local Coding Instructor (Part-Time) to join our academic team in Ho Chi Minh City. This role leads structured, project-based coding programs for children through Roblox Studio, Minecraft Education, and at least one text-based programming language such as Python. ABOUT THE ROLE

The Coding Instructor is responsible for safe lesson delivery, student learning outcomes, classroom culture, assessment, routine parent/school communication, and the direct leadership of assigned Teaching Assistants (TAs). This specialist teaching role focuses on computational thinking, debugging, digital creation, and student ownership.

  • Reports to: Specialist Programme Lead and Education Head


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Planning, Platforms & Readiness:

    • Review approved learning objectives, lesson plans, assessment criteria, account controls, and relevant student information before each class.

    • Prepare, test, and verify Roblox Studio, Minecraft Education, Python demonstrations, devices, software, network access, and offline backup activities.

    • Brief assigned Teaching Assistants on lesson flow, responsibilities, digital-safety controls, priority students, behaviour supports, and required learning evidence.

  • Coding Teaching & Facilitation:

    • Lead engaging, age-appropriate coding projects using Roblox Studio, Minecraft Education, and at least one text-based language such as Python.

    • Teach accurate concepts including sequence, variables, conditions, loops, functions, events, data, decomposition, algorithms, and debugging.

    • Guide students to plan, build, test, explain, receive feedback, debug, and improve their own programs and digital products.

    • Use questioning, modelling, trace tables, error analysis, and feedback without taking control of the student's keyboard or completing the code.

  • Classroom Management & Assessment:

    • Establish safe, positive, and well-paced routines for log-in, device use, collaboration, saving, submission, breaks, and dismissal.

    • Differentiate support and challenge for varied coding experience while preserving the intended learning objective and student ownership.

    • Assess computational thinking, code quality, functionality, debugging process, explanation, creativity, and improvement using approved evidence and rubrics.

    • Identify and report recurring misconceptions, access barriers, software issues, and recommended curriculum improvements.

  • Leadership, Digital Safety & Quality:

    • Direct assigned TAs and model effective questioning, debugging support, device handling, and professional communication.

    • Maintain approved student accounts, privacy settings, file structures, version control, asset licensing, and responsible use of online or AI tools.

    • Pause, adapt, or escalate a lesson when supervision, platform access, connectivity, device readiness, or digital-safety controls are insufficient.

    • Complete required class records and contribute accurate information for approved parent/school updates when requested.

  • Safeguarding, Confidentiality & Safety:

    • Actively supervise student arrival, break times, and dismissal to guarantee student physical safety at all times.

    • Uphold strict confidentiality regarding student personal details, academic performance, and family data.

    • Strictly follow all organizational health, safety, and incident-reporting protocols.


OUR REQUIREMENTS

MUST-HAVES (NON-NEGOTIABLES)

  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience teaching coding and working with children in a classroom, after-school or camp environment.

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Education, Technology, or a related discipline.

  • Technical Competence: Demonstrated ability with Roblox Studio, Minecraft Education, and at least one text-based programming language such as Python.

  • Language Proficiency: Strong English proficiency (IELTS 6.5+ or equivalent) and age-appropriate technical explanation skills.

  • Teaching Pedagogy: Ability to teach computational thinking, project design, debugging, reflection, and independent problem-solving.

  • Safeguarding & Classroom Management: Ability to complete child-protection and digital-safety training and independently maintain student focus, positive behaviour, and safe device use.


NICE-TO-HAVES (PREFERABLES)

  • Professional Certification: Teaching certification, computer-science education, project-based learning, or child-development training.

  • Coding Portfolio: Personally created Roblox, Minecraft Education, Python, web, game, or app projects suitable for practical review.

  • Additional Tools: Experience with Scratch, Tynker, MakeCode, JavaScript, Lua/Luau, Git, classroom LMS platforms, or responsible AI-supported coding.


PROGRAMS

  • On-site B2B after-school activity (ASA) clubs

  • Weekday after-school and/or evening classes

  • Weekend workshops and/or birthday parties

  • Camps (Summer, Winter..)

  • Special events, holiday and workshops

This position is part-time. Depending on candidate availability and the time of academic year, a Local Coding Instructor typically works between 4-28 hours per week.
