About the Role

ABOUT THE ROLE

The STEAM Teacher is responsible for safe lesson delivery, student learning outcomes, classroom culture, assessment, routine parent/school communication, and the direct leadership of assigned Teaching Assistants (TAs). This is a broad teaching role focused on inquiry and the Engineering Design Process.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Planning, Materials & Readiness: 

Review approved learning objectives, lesson plans, assessment criteria, and relevant student information before each class.

Prepare, test, and verify demonstrations, science explanations, tools, kits, consumables, devices, and appropriate backup activities.

Brief assigned Teaching Assistants on lesson flow, responsibilities, equipment controls, priority students, behaviour supports, and required learning evidence.

STEAM Teaching & Facilitation: 

Lead engaging, age-appropriate inquiry, experiments, engineering challenges, guided builds, teamwork, and structured reflection.

Connect practical activities to accurate concepts in science, mathematics, engineering, technology, and design.

Facilitate the Engineering Design Process, enabling students to plan, create, test, explain, receive feedback, and improve their own work.

Use effective questioning and feedback to develop confidence, curiosity, problem-solving, and independent thinking.


Classroom Management & Assessment: 

Establish and maintain safe, positive, and well-paced classroom routines, including arrivals, transitions, material use, teamwork, breaks, and dismissal.

Differentiate support and challenge to meet varied learner needs without removing the intended learning objective or completing work for students.

Assess student understanding, process skills, safety, teamwork, and improvement using approved evidence, rubrics, and class records.

Identify and report recurring misconceptions, learning barriers, and recommended curriculum improvements.

Leadership, Safety & Quality: 

Direct assigned TAs during class delivery and model effective questioning, behaviour guidance, equipment handling, and professional communication.

Maintain high standards for lesson delivery, student participation, learning evidence, classroom presentation, and equipment care.

Pause, adapt, or escalate an activity when supervision, equipment, materials, learner readiness, or safety controls are insufficient.

Complete required class records and contribute accurate information for approved parent/school updates when requested.

Safeguarding, Confidentiality & Safety:

Actively supervise student arrival, break times, and dismissal to guarantee student physical safety at all times.

Uphold strict confidentiality regarding student personal details, academic performance, and family data.

Strictly follow all organizational health, safety, and incident-reporting protocols.
